Racing Live Car Parts Guide
Car Parts Overview
Car Parts are enhancements that can be added to your car to improve their speed (attack) or handling (defense). With a few exceptions, you can have 1 of every available car part (regardless of category) per car.
Remember: Car Parts are only used if you have a Car available. Extra car parts are NOT used regardless of how many crew members you can bring to a race unless you have a car available.
In Racing Live, car parts are grouped into 3 categories:
- Performance
- Handling
- Extra
Unlike other Storm 8 games, you are NOT limited to 1 car part per category. Every car can have 1 of each type of car part (see exceptions below) regardless of category.
Example: I am level 9 and have 10 crew members, 7 cars, 12 Cold Air Intake, 5 Upgraded ECU. When I race, I will use: 7 Cars, 7 Cold Air Intake and 5 Upgraded ECU (12 total enhancements).
Car Parts have the following components:
- Speed (used interchangeably in this guide with Attack): Used to calculate your Attack points when Attacking
- Handling (used interchangeably in this guide with Defense): Used to calculate your Defense points when Defending
- Cost: Purchase Price (can be sold for 50% of cost)
- Upkeep: ** IMPORTANT ** The amount that it costs to maintain that car part per income cycle.
Car Parts Types
When deciding which car parts to purchase, there is no difference in terms of category. You are not restricted to 1 car part from each category. In fact, each car can use 1 of EVERY car part when racing against other players.
Exceptions
The exception to this rule occurs for the following two categories of performance parts: Turbo/Supercharger and Exhaust. Stage 1 Turbo Kit, Stage II Supercharger, and Stage III Twin Turbo are all considered Turbo/Supercharger car parts and only 1 of these car parts can be used per car. Likewise, Dual Exhaust and Performance Exhaust are both considered Exhaust parts and only 1 type of exhaust can be used per car.
You can ONLY have one type of Turbo/Supercharger and one type of Exhaust per car.
Example: I am level 30 and have 15 crew members, 5 cars, 5 Stage 1 Turbo Kit, 2 Stage III Twin Turbo, 8 Dual Exhaust, 3 Performance Exhaust. When I race, I will use: 5 Cars, 2 Stage III Twin Turbo, 3 Stage I Turbo Kit, 3 Performance Exhaust, 2 Dual Exhaust (10 total enhancements).
As you can see from the example, the best car parts are automatically chosen based on their speed or handling points. Also, it would make sense to buy more cars in order to use more car parts and crew members.
Car Parts Strategy
The first step is to buy a car for every available crew member (up to 5 per level). After that, you can choose which car parts to buy based on their Speed/Handling and Upkeep. At the minimum, I recommend buying all the zero upkeep car parts as they will not detract from your cash flow. Remember to buy 1 of each car part type per car.
Example: I have 10 cars and want to max out on zero upkeep car parts. I would buy 10 Cold Air Intake, 10 Stage 1 Turbo Kit, 10 Upgraded Rotors, 10 Front Spoiler, 10 Bullet-Proof Windshield, 10 Twin Tipped Muffler.
Upkeep versus Income
Income in Racing Live is extremely low relative to upkeep costs. It is very difficult to build a large cash flow and you have to be very careful with upkeep costs. If possible, avoid buying any car parts with upkeep for as long as possible. Remember that upkeep costs are deducted every income cycle so if you have total upkeep costs of 5,000 you would lose at least 120,000 per day in potential income (more for Bankrollers). Upkeep costs are commonly calculated as a % of your income stream. In Racing Live, I personally like to keep my upkeep at 10% or less of my income - but this can vary depending on your playing style.
Slow Down - Build Income
If you find that upkeep costs are having a significant impact on your income, then it may be time to slow down your character leveling and allow your income to build. At the lower levels, it is easier to successfully win races without having to purchase high upkeep cars or car parts. This also makes strategic sense because players are restricted to 5 crew members per level and it is much less costly to equip a small crew with cars and car parts than a larger crew.
Purchase Strategically
When deciding what car parts to buy, you need to carefully consider the car part's Upkeep, Speed and Handling and whether it is even necessary to purchase additional car parts. This is complicated by the fact that you also need to compare this against the Upkeep, Speed and Handling of the cars available for purchase. It often makes sense to buy better car parts rather than buying better cars.
Example: The next step up from a Mini Cooper (Speed 14, Handling 20, Upkeep 50) is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo (Speed 22, Handling 18, Upkeep 100). Rather than upgrading to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, it makes more sense to buy Side Skirt (Speed 2, Handling 2, Upkeep 18), Off Road Upgrade (Speed 2, Handling 2, Upkeep 15), Dual Exhaust (Speed 2, Handling 1, Upkeep 12). These 3 car parts combined with a Mini Cooper would result in (Speed 20, Handling 25, Upkeep 95). You would have nearly as much speed as a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo with significantly better handling all for less upkeep costs.
Understanding this relationship is critical in Racing Live due to the low ROI of the available real estate and the difficulty in building cash flow. Unless you are losing a significant percentage of your races, I would recommend only buying the lowest upkeep cars/car parts in order to build your income. If it is necessary to buy higher upkeep cars/car parts, then pay special attention to the total speed or handling points offered by each combination with the goal of minimizing total upkeep costs.
Maximize Your Racing Potential
This needs to be said again: In order for a crew member to race, they must have a car. Only after you fulfill that requirement are the Speed or Handling points of car parts are taken into consideration when racing.
Attack and Defense
When attacking another player, only the speed (attack) points of your cars/car parts are taken into consideration. Conversely, when defending against another player, only the handling (defense) points of your cars/car parts are taken into consideration.
